Note On The Founding of Germantown

Note About William Penn’s Invitation To The Thirteen Families

In historical notes, it is sometimes mentioned that William Penn invited the first Thirteen Families of Germantown to settle in Pennsylvania. In other historical notes, it mentions that there is no record of this invitation, and that it is probably inconceivable that the invitation could have been extended to the families.

But these same historical notes don’t mention that William Penn is actually a cousin of Isaac op den Graeff, my 10th great grandfather, the head of one of the Thirteen Families who founded Germantown.

So, to us, it is conceivable that there could have been an invitation, if not to all Thirteen Families, at least to one of them.

William Penn is my 2nd cousin 11x removed.
